I think we can all agree that some of the best shopping is when there's a good cause behind it, right? I can recall many a blissful moment at, say, the Fashion Girls for Japan sample sale, filling my arms with designer duds and throwing caution to the wind because my money was going to such a good place, helping the earthquake victims. And whenever a designer steps out with an item or capsule designed for a charitable cause, it's irresistible. It's fashion with passion - okay, okay, I know that is THE cheesiest thing I've ever said, but it's true. It's chic yet meaningful. For once, you're doing a good thing by shopping.
What if you could go to one place, one site where you could find amazing, cutting edge designs from up and coming designers all for good causes? You can. Duh, why else would I be writing this post? The Young Designers Collective is a New York group of young designers who create for non-profit organizations, so shopping there means you can support their charitable cause, promote their careers AND find something fresh and fashion-forward. Win, win, win.
Shilpa Iyengar, Hanh Lam and Harmony Pitobello founded and design for the collective. There is a very curated, gallery-like feel to shopping. You can view the designs and contact the designers to purchase - less like e-commerce, more like the unique, catered and personable experience that comes from having something made for you or purchasing art. The collective's designs were even shown at Christie's for the Heart and Soul Charitable Fund Gala, demonstrating their one-of-a-kind, unique aesthetic.
